# CBSE Says Marks Can Also Decrease After Rechecking

![CBSE Says Marks Can Also Decrease After Rechecking](https://thesushant.in/img/og.php?id=6966&w=768&h=403)

For many CBSE students, the days after board results are usually filled with comparison, confusion, cutoff calculations, and endless conversations about marks.

But this year, another discussion has started taking over student groups and comment sections.

A growing number of students are now realizing that CBSE has clearly stated marks can also decrease after revaluation or verification.

And that one detail is changing how many students are thinking about rechecking in 2026.

For some students, applying for revaluation no longer feels like a simple correction process. It now feels like a risk.

## The Detail That Many Students Initially Missed

When CBSE released its post-result guidelines, most attention immediately went toward:

* OSM evaluation
* scanned answer sheet access
* rechecking process
* application dates

But one line in the notice is now getting far more attention among students.

CBSE mentioned that after verification or re-evaluation, marks may either increase or decrease.

Even a reduction of one mark can be officially applied after the process.

Interestingly, many students initially assumed revaluation only helped in cases where marks increased. But after students started reading the detailed guidelines more carefully, the conversation online slowly shifted.

Now the bigger question is:

> “Is applying for revaluation actually worth the risk?”

## Why Students Are Feeling More Confused This Year

This discussion is becoming bigger because many students already feel uncertain about this year’s evaluation process.

Over the past few days, student discussions across YouTube comments, Telegram groups, and social platforms have repeatedly focused on:

* unexpectedly low scores in one subject
* differences between pre-board and board marks
* OSM checking confusion
* stricter marking perception
* toppers getting unusually uneven scores

Because of this, students were already thinking about rechecking more seriously than usual.

But now, the possibility of marks decreasing has added another layer of hesitation.

Especially for students sitting near important percentage ranges, even one mark feels emotionally significant.

## Why “Just One Mark” Feels Like a Big Deal

Outside the student world, one mark may not sound important.

But during admission season, students think differently.

One mark can affect:

* percentages
* cutoff chances
* rank comparisons
* confidence
* family expectations

This is why many students are not treating CBSE’s warning as a small technical detail.

They are treating it like a major decision point.

And for students already mentally exhausted from board pressure, CUET preparation, and college uncertainty, the fear of making the wrong choice is becoming very real.

## Students Are Now Overthinking Whether to Apply

One thing becoming noticeable this year is how carefully students are reading the revaluation rules before applying.

Many students now seem stuck between two thoughts.

On one side:

> “What if my paper was genuinely checked incorrectly?”

On the other:

> “What if my marks go down instead?”

That psychological conflict is what makes this situation different from a normal post-result correction cycle.

Some students who initially planned to apply are now delaying the decision entirely.

Others are repeatedly searching:

* whether marks really decrease after revaluation
* how often marks change
* whether CBSE rechecking is risky
* if revaluation is worth it in Class 12

This repeated uncertainty itself is becoming part of the larger post-result stress.

## The Revaluation Process Suddenly Feels More Serious

Another reason discussions are growing is because the process now feels more layered and procedural than many students expected.

Students first need to:

* apply for scanned answer books
* review their own copies carefully
* identify possible issues
* then decide whether to proceed further

One important thing many students are noticing is that CBSE is now expecting students themselves to identify evaluation-related concerns after viewing scanned copies.

That has made the process feel more intense and responsibility-driven.

For some students, it almost feels like they are auditing their own board evaluation.

## Timing Is Also Adding More Pressure

The timing of the revaluation process is making the situation more stressful for many students.

At the same time students are trying to understand:

* verification
* re-evaluation
* photocopy access
* mark reduction risk

they are also preparing for:

* CUET
* entrance exams
* counselling
* college admissions

Because of this, the emotional pressure around results does not seem to be ending even after marks have already been declared.

And that is one reason discussions around CBSE’s rechecking process are becoming unusually active this year.

## What Students Should Keep in Mind Before Applying

Students considering any CBSE post-result facility may want to carefully read:

* eligibility conditions
* stage-wise process
* fee structure
* timelines
* consequences of mark changes

Several students online are already advising others not to rush the decision emotionally.

Because once revised marks are officially updated, the changed result becomes final.

That is why many students now appear far more cautious before clicking the apply button.

## Why This Conversation May Continue Growing

As more students begin accessing scanned answer sheets and discussing their scores publicly, conversations around CBSE’s evaluation process are likely to continue for some time.

Some students may still confidently apply for revaluation if they strongly believe something was missed during checking.

Others may avoid the process entirely because of the uncertainty attached to mark reduction.

But one thing is becoming increasingly clear after the 2026 results:

For many students, revaluation is no longer being viewed as a simple correction process.

It is now being treated as a stressful decision involving risk, expectations, and the fear of making things worse.
