Many CA students ignore scholarships simply because they don’t understand the process clearly. That is a mistake. If you are serious about reducing financial pressure during your CA journey, this is something you should not skip.
This guide breaks down everything—eligibility, scholarship amount, duration, and exact application steps—based on how the ICAI system actually works.
What is ICAI Scholarship?
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) provides financial assistance to CA students at different stages of the course. The aim is simple: support deserving and financially constrained students so they can focus on studies.
- ICAI notice alerts
- Exam & registration updates
- Amendment alerts
- Study resources & PDFs
- Practical preparation guidance
The scholarship is available at:
- CA Foundation level
- CA Intermediate level
- During Articleship (post-Inter)
It is not available after clearing CA Final.
ICAI Scholarship Amount (Level-wise)
1. CA Foundation Scholarship
- Amount: ₹1,500 per month
- Duration: 4 months
- Total Benefit: ₹6,000
Eligibility:
- Must be eligible for CA Foundation exam (after Class 12)
- Parental income should be ≤ ₹5 lakh per year
2. CA Intermediate Scholarship
- Amount: ₹2,500 per month
- Duration: 8 months
- Possible Extension: Up to 11 months (if training overlaps)
Eligibility:
- Must have cleared CA Foundation
- Applicable for both single group and both groups
- Parental income ≤ ₹5 lakh per year
3. Articleship (Post-Inter) Scholarship
There are two types here:
(A) Need-Based Scholarship
- Amount: ₹2,500 per month
- Duration: 24 months
- Condition: Parental income ≤ ₹5 lakh
(B) Merit-Based Scholarship
- Rank 1–10: ₹5,000 per month
- Rank 11–50: ₹4,000 per month
- Duration: 24 months
- No income limit required
Key Rules You Must Understand
- Scholarship is not lifetime recurring—it is limited to defined durations.
- If you apply late, you will only get money for remaining months.
- Income-based scholarships require strict verification.
- Merit-based scholarships depend purely on rank.
These are not flexible systems. You either qualify or you don’t.
Documents Required
Before applying, keep these ready:
- Bank Account (Student’s own name)
- Cancelled Cheque
- Parent/Guardian PAN Card
- Income Proof (if applicable)
- CA Membership Number
- Foundation level: Any practicing CA
- Articleship level: Your Principal’s membership number
Without these, your application will get delayed or rejected.
How to Apply (Step-by-Step)
The application is done through the ICAI SSP Portal.
Process:
- Login to SSP Portal
- Go to Student Section
- Select Scholarship Option
- Fill:
- Personal details
- Academic details
- Bank details
- Upload required documents
- Submit application
What happens next?
- Your application goes to a CA (or Principal) for verification
- Income details are validated
- ICAI reviews and approves
- Scholarship starts getting credited
Approval is usually quick if everything is correct.
Important Insight Most Students Miss
The biggest mistake students make is not applying at the right time.
If you delay:
- You lose months of money
- ICAI will not compensate later
Also, many assume they are not eligible without checking income criteria properly. That is lazy thinking.
Should You Apply?
Yes—if:
- Your family income is within limit
- You are preparing seriously
- You want to reduce dependency
No—if:
- You are not consistent in studies
- You just want “extra money” without effort
This system rewards discipline, not shortcuts.
Final Take
ICAI scholarships are not huge money, but they serve a purpose:
- Reduce financial stress
- Support consistency
- Reward merit
