As a student, every rupees counts, and laptops are a big investment. But after weeks of research, comparing specs, and even testing it in-store, I finally decided to buy the **MacBook Air M4**. And honestly, it has turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made for my academic and personal life. In this post, I’ll share **why I chose the MacBook Air M4 as a student**, how it fits into my daily workflow, and why I think it could be the right choice for you too. If you’re a student searching for the best laptop that balances performance, portability, and value, this post is exactly what you’ve been looking for. --- ## My Struggles Before Upgrading Before the MacBook Air M4, I was using an older Intel-based laptop. It was bulky, the battery life barely lasted through two classes, and every time I opened multiple tabs on Chrome, the fan sounded like a jet engine. I needed something: * **Lightweight** (because carrying heavy textbooks + a heavy laptop was killing my back) * **Battery efficient** (so I wouldn’t have to sit near a plug all day) * **Powerful enough** for multitasking (Google Docs, Zoom calls, research tabs, and sometimes coding) * **Future-proof** (I didn’t want to buy another laptop in just 2 years) That’s when I started looking into the **MacBook Air M4**. --- ## Why the MacBook Air M4 Stood Out The MacBook Air has always been Apple’s most student-friendly laptop, but the **M4 chip** takes things to another level. Here’s what really convinced me: ### 1. **Performance That Feels Effortless** The new **Apple M4 chip** is insanely fast. I tested it by running multiple apps—Safari with 20+ tabs, Microsoft Word, Spotify, and even Final Cut Pro for a quick video project. The laptop didn’t slow down once. For students like me who juggle assignments, online classes, and side projects, this kind of performance is a game-changer. [Read Apple’s official MacBook Air M4 performance breakdown](https://www.apple.com/in/macbook-air) --- ### 2. **Battery Life That Lasts All Day** Apple claims up to **18 hours of battery life** on the MacBook Air M4, and honestly, it’s not just marketing. I can go through an entire day of classes, library sessions, and even some Netflix at night without plugging in. As a student, this is huge. No more carrying chargers everywhere or fighting for the one available outlet in the lecture hall. --- ### 3. **Portability That Fits Student Life** Weighing just **2.7 pounds (1.24 kg)**, the MacBook Air M4 is incredibly light. I throw it in my backpack with notebooks, and it feels like nothing. Compare that to my old laptop, which felt like carrying a brick. If you’re constantly moving between classes, the library, and coffee shops, this portability makes a massive difference. --- ### 4. **A Display That Makes Studying Enjoyable** The **13.6-inch Liquid Retina display** is crisp, bright, and easy on the eyes. Whether I’m reading PDFs, editing presentations, or watching lectures, the clarity makes studying less tiring. --- ### 5. **Future-Proof Investment** Apple Silicon laptops are known to last. Even the first-gen M1 MacBook Air from 2020 is still running like new for many users today. With the M4, I know I’ll be set for at least the next 5–6 years. --- ## How the MacBook Air M4 Fits Into My Student Life Here’s a breakdown of how I actually use it daily: * **Morning classes**: I open lecture slides on one side of the screen and take notes on the other using [Notion](https://www.notion.so/). The multitasking is smooth. * **Library sessions**: I usually have 15+ Chrome tabs open for research, plus Spotify running in the background. The MacBook Air M4 handles it effortlessly. * **Group projects**: Video calls on Zoom + Google Docs collaboration run without lag. * **Evening downtime**: I stream Netflix or edit short videos for my side hustle. The display and speakers make it a great entertainment device too. --- ## Comparing MacBook Air M4 With Other Options I know many students are torn between different laptops. Here’s a quick comparison from my research: | Laptop | Weight | Battery Life | Price (Starting) | Best For | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | **MacBook Air M4** | 2.7 lbs | Up to 18 hrs | **₹84,900** | Students needing balance of power + portability | | MacBook Pro M4 | 3.5 lbs | Up to 22 hrs | **₹1,69,900** | Students doing heavy video editing or coding | | Dell XPS 13 | 2.8 lbs | 12–14 hrs | **₹2,07,989** | Windows users who want premium design | | Microsoft Surface Laptop 6 | 2.9 lbs | 13–15 hrs | **₹1,85,400** | Students who prefer Windows + touchscreen | For me, the **MacBook Air M4 hit the sweet spot**—affordable enough, super light, and powerful enough for my needs. --- ## The Price Factor: Is It Worth It for Students? The MacBook Air M4 starts at **₹84,900**, but as a student, I was able to get it at a discount through the **Apple Education Store**. Plus, Apple often runs promotions where you get free AirPods or gift cards with purchase. [Check Apple’s Education Pricing here](https://www.apple.com/in-edu/shop/buy-mac/macbook-air) Yes, it’s still a big investment, but when I thought about how much time I’d save and how long it would last, it felt worth it. --- ## Real-Life Student Use Cases Here’s how I actually use the MacBook Air M4 every day as a student: **Note-taking & Research:** I use Notion and Google Docs with dozens of tabs open. No lag. **Online Classes:** The 12MP Center Stage camera makes me look clear and professional on Zoom calls. **Creative Projects:** I edit videos on iMovie and Canva, and the M4 chip handles it easily. **Entertainment:** After class, I stream Netflix and Spotify — the Retina display and speakers make it feel premium. **Coding & Software:** I run Python without worrying about crashes. MacBook Air M4 vs. Other Options Before buying, I compared the MacBook Air M4 with other laptops: **Windows Laptops:** Many are cheaper, but they don’t offer the same battery life or build quality. **MacBook Pro M4**: More powerful, but heavier and pricier. As a student, I didn’t need that much power. **Older MacBooks (M2/M3):** Still good, but with the M4’s performance leap, I wanted something future-proof. After weighing all options, the MacBook Air M4 was the perfect balance. --- If you found post useful, you’ll also love reading **[11 Best Gifts You Can Give Yourself This Diwali 2025 | Self-Love & Smart Shopping Guide](https://thesushant.in/diwali-2025-gifts-for-yourself/)**where i told what gift you should buy for yourself this Diwali.
