CA Exam Preparation in the Last Few Days: What Actually Works
When exams are close, most students face the same problem—too much pressure, too many resources, and no clear direction. The goal now is not to learn everything, but to optimize what you already know.
This phase decides your result more than the entire year of study.
1. Stick to One Set of Study Material
At this stage, switching materials is a mistake.
- ICAI notice alerts
- Exam & registration updates
- Amendment alerts
- Study resources & PDFs
- Practical preparation guidance
- Do not jump between books, notes, PDFs, or new questions
- Use only:
- Your class notes OR
- ICAI module OR
- The material you have already studied
If you keep changing sources, your brain stays in confusion mode instead of revision mode.
Rule:
“Depth in one material beats shallow knowledge of many.”
2. Study 2–3 Subjects Daily (Smart Rotation)
Studying only one subject all day is not effective unless the exam is in 1–2 days.
Instead:
- Divide your day into 2–3 subjects
- Give more time to difficult subjects
- Keep easy subjects on rotation
Example:
- Daily: Accounts / Law (important or weak)
- Alternate days: Economics / Maths (lighter subjects)
This keeps your mind active and avoids burnout.
3. Use the 50–10 Study Rule
A simple but powerful method:
- Study 50 minutes with full focus
- Take a 10-minute break
Why this works:
- Prevents mental fatigue
- Improves concentration
- Reduces distractions
During 50 minutes:
- No phone
- No social media
- No multitasking
During 10 minutes:
- Relax completely (don’t think about studies)
4. Focus on Mistake Analysis (Most Important)
This is where toppers separate themselves.
Every mistake you make now:
- Write it down
- Understand why it happened
- Revise the correct method
Because:
- These are your latest weaknesses
- Your brain remembers recent errors better
If you track mistakes properly, you are far less likely to repeat them in the exam.
5. Practice Mock Tests Seriously
Mock tests are not optional.
- Attempt at least 1–2 full papers
- Sit for 3 hours like real exam
- Then check with solutions
Benefits:
- Improves writing speed
- Builds exam stamina
- Shows your real preparation level
You will clearly see:
- What you can solve confidently
- What you are skipping
- Where you are making mistakes
6. Take Care of Your Health
Many students ignore this and suffer at the wrong time.
Focus on:
- Proper sleep (6–7 hours minimum)
- Regular meals
- Enough water intake
If your health drops:
- Preparation suffers
- Exam performance drops
Short-term discipline here gives long-term results.
7. Avoid Overthinking and New Experiments
In the last days:
- Do not try new strategies
- Do not chase “new important questions”
- Do not panic
Keep it simple:
- Revise
- Practice
- Improve mistakes
Final Mindset
At this stage, success is not about doing extraordinary things.
It’s about doing basic things correctly and consistently:
- Limited material
- Smart revision
- Controlled practice
- Strong mindset
If you stay disciplined for these final days, your chances of clearing the exam increase significantly.
